| | | | | | | | Wielkopolskie Fabryki Mebli S.A. with its headquarters in Oborniki Wielkopolskie is one of the biggest and oldest manufacturers of furniture in Poland. Our company can pride on over 100 years tradition. The history of furniture industry in Oborniki dates back to the end of last century ang has its roots in the private firms of wooden trade in Oborniki Wielkopolskie and Szamotuły. As early as before The Second World War the factory in Schamotuły produced furniture of superior quality and exported it to England and Germany. Untill the beginning of The Second World War private furniture manufacturers in Oborniki and Szamotuły worked incessantly. After the war they were nationalized and later several times reorganized.
These are the most important dates in postwar history: -in 1962-Obornickie Fabryki Mebli were founded -in 1980- the creating of Wielkopolskie Fabryki Mebli i Wyposażenia Wnętrz. The plants started to expand with great intensity, and production was set for the inside equipment of hotels, restaurants and receptions. To the receivers of products from Oborniki belonged: Germany, Italy, Holland, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Pakistan and the Canary Islands.
During the years 1989- 1991- the plants were extended and reorganized again. The sale was set mainly for export. When the market conditions in Poland deteriorated, the WSM SA increased the employment, the purchase of machines and appliances, and increased the quantity of production too. Not without reason was a foreign capital interested in our company. In 1994- the Company was privatized by participation of American capital- Boston capital group: Schooner Capital Corporation.
In 1998- was transformed into public company and the WFM SA made its debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. In 1999- after many months of thorough preparations, our company entered into an agreement with Schieder Europa Holding from Austria, under which the company- Top Sofa Oborniki Sp z o.o. was created. WFM S.A. has the controlling interest. Top Sofa Oborniki Sp z o.o. deals with the production of upholestered furniture. Almost 98% of this production Top Sofa Oborniki Sp z o.o. sells to west markets.
Since year 2000 our company has got an ISO 9001 certificate confirmed by TŰV Sűddeutschland, at the turn of years 2000/2001 appeared the new strategy investor- Mr. Edward Bik, that is why the WFM SA began another restructuring.
