Copper Research and Design Center CUPRUM Ltd.
Research and Development Center, a member of the KGHM Polska Mied capital group, was formed on the base of transformation of the Copper Research and Designing Center CUPRUM existing since 1967. CBPM CUPRUM Ltd. Research and Development Centre capital is 1 million $, the turnover in 2003 was 5,7 million $. The company employs 113 people.
The scientific-research and designing activity of the company includes several areas starting from geology, hydrogeology, geophysisc, through mining, rock-mass mechanics, mine ventilation, automation, electrification and mechanisation to ore processing, tailing disposal and environmental protection. Copper Research and Designing Center CUPRUM has very well qualified staff with great professional experience gained and increased during 35 years of the company existing. The company employees have special authorisation in the following fields: evaluation of investment influence on environment, the earth s surface protection, water protection, air protection, geological and hydrogeological, WUG (Superior Mining Office) qualifications as well as they are NOT (National Engineering Organisation) experts. They work on high-tech computers and unique exploratory apparatus.


For several years of operation CUPRUM has designed 4 copper mines including: Lublin, Polkowice, Rudna and Sieroszowice within the limits of Legnica-G og砃opper Region with its own technical infrastructure (workshops, tailing ponds, transport bases, fuel bases). Mines operate 29 shafts, the area of more then 500 km2 are exploiting ore deposit containing average 1,9% of copper. One-year output of KGHM mines is up to 30 million tones of the ore.


Currently the center is still continuing its research and designing activity for KGHM plants, first of all in the range of geology, mining and environmental protection. Our specialists work out projects for coal mines and salt mines. Within the foreign contracts CUPRUM designed metal mines in the former USSR and China, and prepared technical and economical valuation of the metal ore deposits in Mongolia, Zambia, Congo, Morocco, Chile, Peru, Hungary, Albania and Cuba. Among many CUPRUM foreign projects we should mention our projects of shafts and tunnels located in India, Algeria and Iran.
We co-operate with many international institutions such as: EUROMINES, Bureau de Recherches Geologiques et Minieres from France, Raw Materials Group from Sweden, Imperial College of London, National Technical University of Athens, University of St. Ivan Rilski Sofia, Universite de Laval from Canada, Deutsche Montan Technologie from Germany and many others domestic universities and institutions.
